Half as Much $22.99 Full performer name: Curley Williams & His Georgia Peach Pickers.Half as Much is part two in a two-volume series that compiles Curley Williams' complete Columbia recordings. It picks up in 1949 where the first volume, Just a-Pickin' and a-Singin', leaves off, and continues to the end of Williams' tenure with the label in 1952. A smattering of alternate takes dating back to 1946 are included at the end of the program to fill out the disc. Williams was reputedly a notoriously -- even comically -- slow talker, which may help explain why the pace of his recordings is strangely relaxed for a string dance band. The anesthetized performances undercut novelties such as "Honey Do You Love Me -- Huh?" and "No Not Now," which should be sprightlier. Instead, there are moments when it seems as if Williams recorded his music moments before the sleeping pills took effect. Williams is known, above all, for composing the song "Half as Much," a hit for Hank Williams and Rosemary Clooney, and Curley's original version from 1951 appears on this anthology. Unfortunately, it is an unremarkable rendition of more historical interest than anything. Curley collaborated with Hank Williams on occasion, too, co-writing the two aforementioned novelty songs. Adding to the value for Hank Williams completists, the anthology presents a rare demo from 1949 of Hank and Curley singing "No Not Now." Like the first volume, Half as Much contains a variety of instrumentals, boogies, ballads, and novelties with a regional sensibility reflected in the many prominent references to Southern states. A telling quotation printed on the back of the CD package suggests that Mitch Miller, Columbia's A&R man, had never heard of Curley Williams even though Curley had been a Columbia recording artist for seven years. It may be tempting to interpret that remark as evidence of Miller's failure to recognize great talent, but it is more likely evidence of the unexceptional character of Williams' catalog. ~ Greg Adams |

My Wife And I Believed In Church Wedding For It's A Foundation To A Family, A Basic Unit Of Society.
When my other half and I went to central Europe for the 1st time and for 31 days from London, England, to Italy, France, Belgium, Germany, Austria to Spain, Switzerland and to Holland, we stayed for 2 days in each main city that we visited.
We visited the famous Shrines of the Sanctified Virgin in Lourdes, France also Beiring in Brussels in Belgium, the Leaning Tower of Pisa in Italy, the Eiffel Tower in Paris, France, the Padre Pio Monastery in Loreto, Italy and the Shrine of St. Francis of Assisi in Italy.
She didn't join me for the a few days Rotary International Convention in Nice, France since she had to return to Cagayan de Oro hurriedly for her pa, Santiago Gavas, who was ninety years old , died unexpectedly.
Our son Bong accompanied her back since I had to attend in Nice, France a Rotary Global Convention where I pre-registered and it was in this convention where I heard the passing sworn statement of the living saint, Mum Theresa of Calcutta, India, an Austrian national a tiny and fragile woman who touched the Rotarians in a simple speech in English.
An American Astronaut, John Glenn, who later on changed into a US Senator, shared his experience in outer space which deepened his Christian faith in God.
The second time we were back was in Eastern Europe and we visited the famous Medjugorje Shrine where the Sanctified Virgin Mary of Bosnia Herzegovina appeared and we then proceeded to see the famous Shrine of the Black Nazarene and made a trip to the attractive city of Prague in the Czech Republic. In Medjugorje you'll find a good Medjugorje accommodation.
For 3 times, my other half and I went back to the United States with our boys Bong and Rommel and the 3rd time was with widow Grace Dalisay where I attended a Rotary Convention in Calgary, Canada. We took off from Seattle Town in a little plane to Calgary and we had a very frightening flight for it is a stormy night and the flight was extra bumpy. Thank The Lord we arrived safely in Calgary for we prayed to Him intensely.
In our return home, we went to Vancouver, Canada and experienced the beautiful Niagara Falls and we went by train from Buffalo Town to New York and returned home via Honolulu, Hawaii to Manila.
It's good always to be back in our pretty country, the Pearl of the Orient Seas.
When we travelled to Singapore 10 years after with our sons, then to Shenzhen, China, Macau and Shanghai, in Mainland China, our grandkids joined us. We visited modern and sophisticated towns on a train from Hongkong.
My grandkids enjoyed it very much . It was terribly notable to them.
Of course, it was quite dear but the experiences were augmenting and dilating.
When my spouse and I joined the Eucharistic Congress of the Center of Jesus in Guadalajara, Mexico, it had been a different sort of religious exposure. Some Dominican Priests of UST and Sacred Heart of Jesus Monks were with us in that spiritual convention.
My other half and I saw the magnificent Pyramids of the pagans in Mexico Town where my spouse climbed it up with the younger monks. I didn't go up any more and some of the partakers.
Then for the 1st time, I saw with my wife the Shrine of our Lady of Guadalupe where the Sanctified Virgin seemed to Juan Diego, a native of Mexico, and where the picture of the Sanctified Mary was released in his coat. It was a miracle.
The Divine Mercy attention was still extraordinary and my other half was a devotee of the Sacred Heart of Jesus.
Today, I'm all alone in our house but my boys Bong and Rommel who sleep in my room with a male carer were there to give me company.
My better half, for the 1st time in our wedded life, attended a convention retreat in Malibu Center in California, USA for six days exclusive for leading players in the Catholic church alone.
Monsignor Rey Manuel Monsanto together with some four Philippine priests, Monina Tayamin, a nationwide evangelist from Manila, and Fr. Mar Arenas, president of the Philippine Apostolic Congress of Mercy and the rector of the Nation's Shrine of the Divine Mercy in Marilao, Bulacan, and Msgr. Rey Manuel Monsanto who is the spiritual director of the Western Mindanao Divine Mercy ecclesiastical region where he is the regional spiritual director.
I'm all for the glory of Our Lord God whether or not my wife is not with me, for she wishes such deep information on how to effectively promote in Mindanao, in her area of responsibility, the glory of The Lord God through the devotion of the Divine Mercy together with other lay leading players in Mindanao.
She will be home in the week of July where I'll meet her at the NAIA Airfield with my child Rommel and his wife Kookie.
In the remaining years of our lives, we will dedicate it devotedly for God's glory and just like the biblical leader, Joshua, when he said, as for me and my household we're going to serve the Lord.
Casting backwards, the Lord prepared us to serve in His Shrine as reported tagza.com.

''Ask the Man Who Owns One'': An Illustrated History of Packard Advertising $49.95 A major force in the American automobile scene through the 1950s, Packard made a mark on American advertising as well. The cars themselves seemed built for promotion—the red hexagon in the hubcap, the yoke grille, and the half-arrow belt-line molding acted as a logo of sorts, setting a new standard in visual continuity and branding. The company's image became so firmly established, in fact, that Packard eventually ran advertisements which pictured the cars but purposely omitted the name, instead asking readers to "guess what name it bears."This book traces Packard's advertising history from 1900 through 1958, based on original research that includes several first-hand interviews with the people who made it happen. Filled with reproductions of Packard ads (some in color), the book looks beyond the surface to examine how the advertisements reflect and interpret the company's management and business convictions, how they were influenced by business conditions and competitive pressure, and how they changed with the times. |
